My friends decided we should take a quick 2 day trip to Miami to visit the beach, see the nightlife and let me experience what it is like.
Together, we left our apartments and went on our very first trip as a group. Below is one of my favourite photos of the 6 of us (we look like little kids on a school trip), I wouldn’t change the way we are for the world.
With just a 3.5 hour drive, I got to see a little bit more of ‘America’, outside of the Disney bubble.
It is genuinely always a shock when I visit a new part of my area, the USA is so different to NZ and offers an insight into many things. While I sit with my mouth wide open, my friends are laughing as everything is normal to them. For example there was a huge building shaped like a guitar, so weird.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in Miami, you see so many pictures online but can never be sure what to expect. From what my friends were saying, it’s cute, but theres also a lot that goes on that isn’t amazing, though this comes with all destinations.
I was so excited to add another location to my list of places i’ve visited, and this was my second while on my Disney College Program.

Once we had arrived, we parked the car and immediately explored Miami beach stores, food places and more as we slowly explored to kill some time.
The stores were so cute and super aesthetic, offering great visuals and photos (my fav). Walking through this area was totally different to what i’m used to seeing and I was loving it.
Quickly my boys and I got hungry and the shock on everyones faces when i said id never tried Raising Canes made me really think I was missing out on something.. (I was, that bread is delicious). Please, if you haven’t, go visit a Raising Canes, you wont regret it. Its one of the few American fast foods I enjoy.
Theres definitely a huge culture in Miami storefronts for them to shove menus in your face, so be prepared to have to turn down a few passive-aggressive workers who really want you to try their business. For me, this and some of the people in Miami kind of threw me off, though I knew I was in good hands with my friends who have been to Miami many times, or even lived there.
A huge point of coming down to Miami was to see some of the nightlife too. We decided to go to a club which was again totally different to the clubs located in my area of Florida. It was a great experience, we even got to meet a drag queen from drag race.
That entire night was an interesting experience but I loved every second of it.
The next day we got up early to go explore once again, this time we were going to make our way to the beach, the one thing tourists come to Miami for.
Me being a huge beach lover, you can imagine how ecstatic I was to be walking the streets of Miami with that in mind.

Miami Beach, shoe store
I will say that the beach was super crowded, it was hard to find an empty spot in the sand big enough for the 6 of us, and it was not as pristine as in pictures.
Though I don’t regret going, I wish I had one more night and day there, just to explore a little bit more and really take every little detail in.
This was so fun, I felt like I just chilled the whole time, even though we barely stopped walking or doing something new. Miami is definitely it’s own little world, though the social life there is huge, you can also find a sense of peace within it.

Miami Beach, City Center
We visited many stores along the way, especially shoe ones (big Jordan and Dunk fan here), stopped in at a little Italian bakery and ate some delicious food, then finally made it to the beach.
I definitely think that it is a little overpriced in some places, though thats expected for a high tourist area. They did have plenty of stores and types of items that we cant really find near us, it was tempting to not purchase some new shoes.
As amazing as viewing Miami was, it was so hot and we all almost passed out from the heat, I have no idea how people lay there on the beach for more than 10 minutes, we were dying.
